bedizen, a jewelry line created by designer Kaia Black, has been in development for several years. While living in New York and working in the art field, Black’s career allowed her to travel throughout Europe and Asia, where she was exposed to a variety of cultural traditions and art. Her experiences led Black to her first introductory jewelry class at the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC). She later took classes at Kristin Hanson jewelry school (Bklyn), Liloveve (Bklyn), and an extended study course with goldsmith Dan Valencia at DC Jewelry School in Washington, DC.
Her designs are drawn from reconstructing and deconstructing shapes and forms while embracing textural elements. The designer’s penchant for design and accessories are instinctive; she submerges herself in the cathartic process transforming metal, wax, and wire into pieces to adorn the body.
Now a Washingtonian, Black continues shaping her up-and-coming jewelry lines, which will include a men’s jewelry.
